About The MTN USSD Code Changes

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approved standard Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) codes, which are now used by all Nigerian telecom providers. This action is a component of the national effort to improve the consistency of these codes across various networks.

In the past, you might have been told to use a different USSD code if you tried to use the old one to recharge your line or purchase a data bundle. This was a blatant sign that the old codes were being replaced.

For example, as an MTN user, you can no longer use the standard MTN codes *555# and *556# to recharge your line, to put things into perspective. This also applies to 9mobile, Glo, and Airtel.

It also suggests that any mobile network provider that declines to relocate, be it MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9Mobile, or someone else, won’t be able to continue serving its consumers. It also says that a single customer service number, one code for credit recharge, and one code for data balance checks will be used by all mobile network services.

Therefore, millions of users of MTN, Airtel, GLO, and 9mobile have begun receiving notifications to use the new transaction codes.
